LET'S STOP THIS

Since the release of the personal bio of literary icon Prof. Chinua Achebe 'There was a country',it has been greeted with divergent views. The book described Chief Obafemi Awolowo as a power grabbing monster who committed genocide to win the despicable civil war.But the question is,is this necessary?of what importance is this book to nation building? How is this book going to help us grow as a nation?

At a time like this, when our collective existence is threatened by ethnic and religious crisis,I don't think it was the best decision to publish this book.An elder statesman like  Prof. Chinua Achebe should realize this.He ought to know that he is revered by a huge number of people and many people would always buy into his views .We shouldn't be made to remember the ugly incidences of the civil war.

The uproar this book has caused shows how backward we are as citizens of Nigeria. It has shown that we are not Nigerians instead we are citizens of our various ethnic group. You see supposed 'Elder states men' supporting their tribes instead of coming out with the truth. This is bad for a country like Nigeria. There is no way we can make progress in conditions like this.

What are your views on Prof. Chinua Achebe's book?
